CMGP Senegal and Delta Irrigation met on 12 May in Dakar to promote irrigation as a driver of economic growth in Senegal at a conference where several issues were discussed.
By joining forces, CMGP Senegal and Delta Irrigation are enhancing their ability to serve the agricultural sector in Senegal.
On the one hand, the two companies are pooling their resources and expertise: currently two branches, in Dakar and Saint Louis, to serve the major agricultural irrigation areas; a large team of nearly 40 people – a notable achievement in a sector where teams are typically very small; and the country’s largest stock, enabling them to deliver within optimised timeframes. The storage conditions at their Diamnadio warehouse are undoubtedly the best in the local sector.
Furthermore, the partnership enables a complementarity of expertise for the greatest benefit of customers: Delta Irrigation has strong local experience, is a leader in centre-pivot irrigation systems, notably Valley, and has a strong presence in the Senegal River valley. CMGP Senegal is the leading distributor of irrigation equipment, bringing the expertise and resources of a major group and offering local support to stakeholders in the Niayes region. Together, they thus provide a first-class offering across every segment of the sector.
The group now has significant implementation capacity, with a national and sub-regional reach (Mali, Guinea, The Gambia, Mauritania) and the ability to deliver projects of all sizes, ranging from 2 hectares to over 10,000 hectares.
This partnership is testament to the dynamism of the irrigation sector in Senegal, driven by growing opportunities in agriculture. Public policies and institutions aim to develop the agricultural sector, a priority objective within the framework of the ‘Emerging Senegal Plan’, which is encouraging more and more investors, both large and small, to enter the agribusiness sector in Senegal.
This dynamism is leading to the professionalisation of the agricultural services sector, which is set to transform itself to meet the challenges of sustainable development and the country’s needs.
